The thank you page offers an opportunity for further customer engagement, which may result in customer loyalty and repeated purchases. This page is critical in creating a smooth user experience and ensuring more sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order success page appears after completing the purchase online when the payment has been made. Usually, you can see there a message of gratitude for a purchase, therefore, this page is also known as a thank you page. Beyond that, it summarizes all order details, such as order number, shipping address, and other relevant information. So, the thank you page isn\u2019t just a page with a positive message, it is an essential part of the ecommerce website, which boosts transparency and trust in your store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this tutorial, we will explore several methods to customize the Shopify thank you page to optimize the post-purchase experience for your customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Why Customize the Shopify Thank You Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Customization is all about flexibility. It allows you to create personalized solutions that align with your specific goals and open up new opportunities. The basic Shopify thank you page looks quite simple and generic, but with customization, you can add some additional functionality or elements to enhance it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If leveraged appropriately, it would improve your sales and average order value by upselling and cross-selling. Additionally, adding an estimated delivery date will enhance transparency and build trust with your customers. Another element you can often see on the Thank You pages is an attractive discount for the next purchases, which ensures repeat sales as well as fosters customer loyalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, customization is a way to enhance the post-purchase experience and create more engaging and valuable interaction, ultimately driving sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>What to Include on the Shopify Thank You Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, the Thank You page consists of the following elements: order details, a link to the order status page, customer contact information, and a Continue Shopping button. This provides essential information, but you may further optimize this page to enhance customer experience and achieve your business goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When customizing the Shopify thank you page, you may add any content that helps you to meet your needs. For example, if you want to encourage repeat purchases, you could offer coupon codes or discounts for the next order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a list of <strong>additional elements you might include on the thank you page<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Order confirmation or order status<\/li><li>Thank you message<\/li><li>Order tracking details<\/li><li>Estimated delivery date<\/li><li>Feedback form or survey questions<\/li><li>Coupon code for next purchase<\/li><li>Customer support contact details<\/li><li>Social media links<\/li><li>Product recommendations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>How to Customize the Thank You Page (for Shopify Plans)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To customize the Shopify thank you page, you may choose between 2 methods: leveraging apps or embedding custom code. They differ in the level of customization offered and the technical skills required. Let\u2019s take a closer look at both options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Method 1. Using Shopify Apps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start with a simpler, but less flexible way &#8211; using Shopify apps. This method doesn&#8217;t require advanced coding skills and allows merchants to enhance their thank you pages quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Various vendors place their applications on the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.shopify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shopify App Store<\/a>, including those related to a custom thank you page. So you only need to browse and select the app that best fits your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After choosing the application and installing it on your store, you have to add a new block to the Thank You page. To accomplish it, follow this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Go to <strong>Online Store -&gt; Themes -&gt; Customize.<\/strong><\/li><li>At the top of the editor, select the desired page &#8211; in our case, the thank you page.<\/li><li>Open the <em>Sections <\/em>tab on the left sidebar.<\/li><li>Click the <em>Add app block<\/em> button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"634\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-1.png\" alt=\"Method 1: step 1-4\" class=\"wp-image-2210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-1.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-1-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-1-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-1-768x404.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\"><li>In the Apps tab, click the &#8216;+&#8217; icon and, if supported by the application, choose the page where you&#8217;d like to add the block.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-2.png\" alt=\"Method 1: step 5\" class=\"wp-image-2211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-2.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-2-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-2-1024x436.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-2-768x327.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how you can customize the Shopify thank you page using an additional block from a third-party app. Besides the limited flexibility of this method, there\u2019s another drawback of using apps to customize the thank-you page for those on a basic plan \u2013 the vendor of the application may require a subscription to a more expensive plan to access this feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Method 2. Using Custom Code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s move on to a more flexible customization method, which ensures more control over the customization process. This method allows you to display any element or block, such as personalized messages, tracking scripts, or promotional content, directly on the thank you page. In contrast with the previous approach, this one requires embedding custom code into the page and working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group pr-notice pr-notice-warning\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p class=\"pr-notice-title\">Important Information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This method relies on the<em> Additional Scripts<\/em> section in the settings. The Additional Scripts feature will be deprecated on August 28, 2025, and replaced by Shopify Functions. Until then, Shopify will continue to release additional Functions APIs to cover existing Scripts use cases. However, you can switch to an older Shopify version to maintain access to Scripts functionality.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To start with, let\u2019s navigate to the Additional Scripts section, where you can add your custom code to customize the Shopify Thank You Page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Go to the store <em>Settings<\/em>.<\/li><li>Click on the <em>Checkout <\/em>tab.<\/li><li>At the very bottom of this tab, you can find the <em>Order status page additional scripts <\/em>section.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"409\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-3.png\" alt=\"Method 2: navigate to the Additional Scripts section\" class=\"wp-image-2213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-3.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-3-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-3-1024x347.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-3-768x260.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>Adding New Elements<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with displaying a simple &#8216;div&#8217; element with the \u201cHello World\u201d text. Here is a code snippet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-prismatic-blocks\"><div><\/div><pre><code class=\"language-batch\">&lt;script>\n\tconst div = document.createElement('div');\n\tdiv.innerHTML = 'Hello World!';\n\tdiv.style.backgroundColor = \"lightblue\";\n\tdiv.style.marginTop = \"10px\";\n\tdiv.style.padding = \"10px\";\n\tdiv.style.borderRadius = \"5px\";\n\n\tconst container = document.querySelector(\"div.section\");\n\tcontainer.append(div);\n&lt;\/script>\n<\/code><\/pre><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This code creates an HTML element, assigns CSS styles to it, and adds a \u2018Custom block\u2019 string to this element. Then, using a <code>document.querySelector()<\/code>, it gets the element that matches the specified selector <code>div.section<\/code> and inserts the newly created after all its child elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After creating a test order, you can see what the custom Shopify thank you page looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"411\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-4.png\" alt=\"How the custom Shopify thank you page looks like\" class=\"wp-image-2215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-4.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-4-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-4-1024x349.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-4-768x262.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes also apply to the Order Status page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"408\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-5.png\" alt=\"The changes applied to the Order Status page\" class=\"wp-image-2216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-5.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-5-300x101.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-5-1024x346.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-5-768x260.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>Removing Elements<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can not only add but also remove various elements from the page. Below is a code snippet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-prismatic-blocks\"><div><\/div><pre><code class=\"language-batch\">&lt;script>\n\tconst div = document.createElement('div');\n\tdiv.innerHTML = 'Custom block!';\n\tdiv.style.backgroundColor = \"#ffd32c\";\n\tdiv.style.color = 'black';\n\tdiv.style.fontWeight = 'bold';\n\tdiv.style.marginTop = \"30px\";\n\tdiv.style.padding = \"20px 10px\";\n\tdiv.style.borderRadius = \"5px\";\n\n\tdocument.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', () => {\n\t\tconst containerToAdd = document.querySelector(\".section\");\n\t const containerToRemove = document.querySelector(\".step__sections > .section:nth-child(3)\");\n\n\t containerToAdd.append(div);\n\t containerToRemove.remove();\n\t});\n&lt;\/script>\n<\/code><\/pre><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s what our Thank You Page looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-6.png\" alt=\"Thank you page after removing elements\" class=\"wp-image-2217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-6.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-6-300x101.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-6-1024x344.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-6-768x258.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>Rendering Sections<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it\u2019s not very convenient to structure HTML elements directly within the <code>&lt;script&gt;<\/code> tag. It would be more efficient to render a file with a pre-formed block. Shopify provides a solution for this \u2013 the Section Rendering API.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the official <a href=\"https:\/\/shopify.dev\/docs\/api\/ajax\/section-rendering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section Rendering API<\/a> documentation, we can render any section by its identifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s create the custom section, which later will be rendered by its identifier:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Navigate to <strong>Online Store -&gt; Themes -&gt; \u2026 -&gt; Edit code, <\/strong>to access the Theme Editor.<\/li><li>Open the <em>Sections<\/em> directory.<\/li><li>Click the <em>Add a new section<\/em> button.<\/li><li>Select the <em>Liquid <\/em>file type and provide the name for the new section. This name will serve as an identifier for the Section Rendering API (in our case it\u2019s <code>custom-thank-you-block.liquid<\/code>).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a code snippet for a custom section:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-prismatic-blocks\"><div><\/div><pre><code class=\"language-batch\">&lt;style>\n .section-wrap{\n border: 1px solid #dbdbdb;\n padding: 30px 20px;\n border-radius: 8px;\n box-shadow: 3px 4px 15px #d5d5d5;\n }\n\n .section-title{\n color: #222;\n font-size: 22px;\n font-style: normal;\n font-weight: bold;\n line-height: 1.3;\n letter-spacing: 0;\n margin-bottom: 18px;\n }\n\n .section-desk{\n font-size: 18px;\n font-style: normal;\n font-weight: 400;\n line-height: 1.5;\n color: #222222;\n }\n&lt;\/style>\n\n&lt;div class=\"section-wrap\">\n &lt;h3 class=\"section-title\">\n Congratulations!\n &lt;\/h3>\n\n &lt;p class=\"section-desk\">\n You rendered your custom section. Once the HTML for the block is retrieved, it\u2019s passed to the <code>createDiv()<\/code> function, which creates a new <code>&lt;div&gt;<\/code> element and inserts the HTML content. This new element is then added to the page using the <code>containerToAdd.append()<\/code> method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, we added the <code>!Shopify.checkout<\/code> condition to customize the thank you page. This condition prevents any changes on the Order status page, but if we remove it, the section will be displayed on both pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what our custom thank you page looks like now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1206\" height=\"409\" src=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-7.png\" alt=\"The thank you page after rendering sections\" class=\"wp-image-2218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-7.png 1206w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-7-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-7-1024x347.png 1024w, https:\/\/plumrocket.com\/learn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/\u0441ustomize-shopify-thank-you-page-7-768x260.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1206px) 100vw, 1206px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>Dynamic Customization Based on Product Attributes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <code>Shopify.checkout <\/code>object contains a lot of valuable information, including the purchased product details.
