Install the Extension

First, install or upgrade the Magento 2 AMP extension. We recommend using Composer as this method is faster and easier.

Step 2. Enable the Extension

Start by enabling the extension in Sandbox mode (especially if the extension is installed on your live site). This mode allows you to prevent AMP pages from crawling & indexing by Google Bots and hide them from visitors. The sandbox mode is recommended for creating and testing AMP pages until they are valid.

When using Sandbox mode, you also need to disable the Force AMP On Mobile Devices option to avoid displaying invalid AMP pages to customers.

Step 3. Configure the Extension

First of all, set the AMP URL Style of your choice in sandbox mode because changing URL style after your AMP pages are live and cached by Google CDN may result in Google Console errors.

Next, choose pages where you want to enable AMP. It is better to start with several types of pages (e.g. product and category pages) and then gradually roll out AMP on the rest of your website. You can even enable the AMP for just one single page (e.g. specific product page URL: www.example.com/my-test-product.html).

Finally, set up the AMP integrations you are currently using on the non-AMP version of the website.

Step 4. Set up AMP Theme Design

At this point, you can start configuring AMP Theme One. This default AMP theme contains various templates and design settings to make your AMP pages look beautiful and similar to your regular Magento theme.

Step 5. Personalize CMS Content

Along with the AMP theme, you get a demo homepage and sample cms blocks for header, footer, and menu. Use detailed how-to guides to customize provided CMS widgets, pages, and blocks.

Step 6. Customize AMP Theme

If you want to customize the AMP theme more than you can configure from the backend, you may refer to our Developer Guide. You can ask your own development team to check the official AMP documentation and customize the AMP theme. Additionally, our professional AMP developers are always ready to help you with customizations of any difficulty. Don’t hesitate to contact us for a free amp customization estimate.

Step 7. Validate AMP Pages

If all the configurations are done, use our guide to validate your AMP pages and test AMP pages in Google AMP Cache. In case of any errors, please make sure to check the Indexing Issues in the troubleshooting section. Please do not switch the AMP extension to production mode (see the next step) if you see any AMP validation errors.

Step 8. Go Live

Once all AMP pages are valid, switch the AMP Extension to Production mode and wait for Google to index your pages. It usually takes a couple of days or weeks. You can also manually request Google to re-index your AMP pages. Remember to keep your AMP pages valid in the future, especially when frequently changing pages’ content.

This article provides basic guidelines for setting up AMP from its installation to production.
